The Nokia X6 will be available for the Chinese public as early as May 21th
After months of rumours and speculation Nokia blew the lid, and the Nokia X6 became fact! The Chinese Mother HMD Global showed the smartphone today. According to HMD the Nokia X6 will be available for the Chinese public as early as May 21th!
It looks like the Nokia X6 joins the trend of iPhone-like designs with a notch. Just like the recently launched Honor 10 and the awaited OnePlus 6. And eventhough it’s no secret I am not a fan of the notch: I think the design of the Nokia X6 looks good. From the back it’s unmistakenly a Nokia, the stretched oval-shape that houses the camera and the flash look familiar. In the case of the Nokia X6 there is a dual camera set-up.
One thing’s for certain, compared to the many rugged devices I’ve seen lately, the Nokia definitely is NOT a rugged phone. In fact, the Nokia X6 is made out of 95% glass! That’s quite a lot. Thus it is anything but advisable to drop this phone. On the other hand, more people choose phones made out of glass these days and seem to be fine with it. My OCD would probably get the better of me, as it’s probably a fingerprint magnet. But that is a minor drawback considering what the Nokia X6 has to offer for it’s price.
So, let’s walk through the specifications of this smartphone so you will get my point. For starters, the Nokia X6 comes with an 5.85 inch, 19:9 ratio screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2280p. which translates in FHD+. Like mentioned before the back is glass (Gorilla Glass 3). It carries two camera sensors: a 16 MP (f/2.0, 1.0µm, giro-EIS) and a 5 MP (f/2.2, 1.2µm). So on paper at least, this should be able to produce some decent pictures.
Now for the part that’s under the hood of this new Nokia X6. It sports a Snapdragon 636 processor and it’s available in several variations. There is a 4GB and a 6GB RAM model and there’s also an option to choose between 32 or 64 GB of internal storage. So nothing spectacular there, but plenty for every day use. The GPU comes from the Adreno 509 chipset so that should be smooth enough. the X6 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo and is powered by a 3060mAh battery. What I noticed is the lack of NFC and 4K video recording that was available on the Nokia 6. Its also not one of the thinnest devices out there with its 8.6 mm thickness. But considering the glass it might be a good thing since you have more grip that way.
Now, let’s go to one of the most positive features of this smartphone: the price. The Nokia X6 will available from prices as low as $ 204.– for the 4GB/32 GB model. Considering it’s camera’s, the SD636 processor and the trendy notch design that;s a very good price. Okay, let me say something positive ont the Nokia X6‘s notch. The reason why I think it’s less annoying than on other phones is that it’s smaller than on the Oukitel U18 or the Leagoo S9, and even smaller than on the iPhone X. But, to each his own, there seems to be a market for it, whether I like it or not(ch) 😉
